NINA SIMONE LIVE AT TOWN HALL - COLPIX 1959

The first song I ever heard by Nina Simone was "Strange Fruit," and its fierceness made me numb. I had never heard singing like that before, especially about such a terrifying subject. Then one day I heard her sing "Black is the Color" and that angelic voice ... to this day she stands as one of the most divine singers there ever was.  She really lets her genius glow on this one.

"She ranged from blues to ballads, from jazz to folk songs and ran an emotional gamut that left the audience gasping" - Back Cover

Nina began recording in the late 50's on Bethlehem Records and then began recording for Colpix. Check out The Roadhouse  to listen to this and other of her early albums.
