JAMAL AT THE PENTHOUSE - ARGO 1959
There's some Ahmad Jamal songs that just blow me away; headnod music...He'll be playing some romantic ballad and all of a sudden go into some funky stabs and melodies, before funk music even existed. There's just something about his reserved spacey manner...cats just got mad styles. Here Jamal gets arranged by his long time friend Joe Kennedy with some silky strings. The intro to "Ahmad's Blues" is straight lush. Check out My Jazz World for this and other albums by the great Ahmad. Word is that he's still touring with the legendary Idris Muhammad.
