MONK MONTGOMERY - REALITY

When I began collecting Jazz records a few years back, Wes Montgomery was one of the first Jazz guitarists that I got turned on to. I can't say that I am a fan of all his albums (especially his 70's albums), but if you find some of his early Pacific Jazz &/or World Pacific records (late 50's, early 60's) they can be classics, featuring some of the most important jazz musicians of that era. It wasn't until I found this record at Village Music though that I found out that Monk Montgomery was his older brother and is regarded as the first Jazz electric bass guitarist on record. It turns out that in 1957, Wes, Monk and their other brother Buddy, a pianist/vibraphonist formed a quartet named the "Mastersounds".
The prolific Montgomery brothers worked together on and off through the 60's branding many Jazz albums with their melodic bop style. This album Reality (Philadelphia International) by Monk though, recorded in '74, is on some take to me to the sea so I can get free.
